Outstanding original Victorian era French 18ct Rose and White Gold daisy cluster Earrings with sprung leverback fittings for pierced ears. Beautiful simple daisy cluster design entirely of rose-cut faceted Diamonds with little setting visible - no modern illusion engraving of a mainly metal head!
The diameter of the head is 10 mm and total height 12 mm. 4-5 mm depth from the side. The central Diamond is approx. 3.5 mm and the irregular Diamond roses surrounding approx. The Diamonds are rose cut which means they have a flat base so their actual wight will be less than with a pavilion below as found in a modern brilliant cut stone with the full number of facets. I have tried to show their size with a photo of a diamond gauge which shows the centre stone at. 25 and the eight smaller stones at. 12 each which gives a total spread of 2.5 carats for the pair of Earrings. Carat weight figure is traditionally estimated on the comparative size appearance in antique items as the stones were chosen to best fill the setting and the shapes radiate like petals. It is not an accurate weight as for a modern Diamond of known weight before it is put into a setting but I do consider this setting to contain the maximum surface area of Diamond possible hence the exceptional reflectivity sparkle!!
Bought in the Loire region of France famed for a luxurious & romantic 19th century lifestyle. The leverback fittings speed along earring changes and fit any modern earsize. Hallmarked with the French Eagle's Head for 18ct Gold. Timeless classic design, very noticeable and luminous to the eye of the beholder.
