Antique Egyptian Revival Ring 18k Gold Sapphire French Sphynx w Appraisal (6034)
Antique Neo Classic Archaeological / Egyptian Revival ring. 18 karat gold and sapphire. Made circa 1880 in France. Measurements: Approximately US size 6.
Sapphire is 1.75ct approximately. A very solid and well made figural ring in the Neo Classic, Archaeological / Egyptian Revival style popular during the late Victorian era. The sturdy gold shank broadens towards the shoulders which are modelled in the form of a pair of pharoah or sphynx heads.
Downcast eyes, straight hair, lotus crown on the forehead with papyrus or sheathes of wheat on either side. The top of the shank is set with a cabochon sapphire. Marks: the outside of the shank has the French eagle head hallmark for 18k gold. Gold was also acid tested to ensure metal purity.Condition: minor wear commensurate with age.
