Antique French Linen Press Armoire, Housekeepers Larder Cupboard, modestly sized
This is a modestly sized antique French oak housekeepers cupboard which dates to the mid 1800s. The cupboard is one solid piece and is very heavy and well made with panelled doors to the front which are set on typical French hinges, the doors can be easily lifted off as required. The cupboard is not particularly large and is ideal for use as a linen cupboard or larder, the spacious interior perfect for quilts and bedding or food and kitchen equipment. The doors open to reveal two removable shelves which are covered with old red patterned paper. The doors have a later lock but sadly we don't have the key, the one shown is for decorative purposes. The cupboard has raised dowels and decorative feet set around a shaped lower apron, the wood has a beautifully waxed finish and is a nice warm brown colour. The cupboard is generally in good structural condition with various marks of age and use to the wood. The side panels have historical shrinkage cracks and the back has evidence of old wood worm damage, we have treated the holes as a precaution. Basically it is well aged and rustic but rather smashing. Shelf heights, top 45cms, middle 44.5cms, bottom 38.5cms.
