Antique French Victorian Cushion-cut Crystal'Diamond' Paste Dormeuses Earrings

Outstanding quality pair of old cushion-cut White Paste stones, equal in size to 1ct Diamond, claw set into a pair of antique French Victorian hinged front-fastening Dormeuses Earrings. These very old Earrings are not marked and relatively lightweight at approx. The cup-shaped toothed claw toothed settings appear to be a pinchbeck type alloy and the earwires are goldplated silver. 5 mm square and have a high crown 3mm above the girdle of the stone. The facets replicate the cutting proportions of an antique Diamond and have really luminous sparkle accentuated by the closed back setting. They are a refined cool white without the rainbow colour spectrum of a modern synthetic stone or mirror backed rhinestone. The inner hinges measure 12 x 7 - very average size still suitable for most regular modern earsizes.

The plain settings really display these lovely stones to their best advantage and are surprisingly eye-catching for their overall dimensions. Will be posted in a new modern craft storage box for a safe journey.
