Here's an antique c1870s chatelaine clip from France. The top features an intricate Renaissance Revival design of mythological creatures surrounded by scrolls and leaves. This design is entirely hand-pierced and -engraved! The background is onyx tests as a gemstone, not glass!
Carved into a shield shape. There is a chain running between the two loops at the bottom; it has a hook so it can be opened (the hook has a French hallmark, so the chain is original to the piece). A fine & unusual addition to your collection. Back is stamped with maker's mark and boar's head mark; one loop is stamped with the maker's mark & the other with the boar's head; the hook on the chain also carries the boar's head. DIMENSIONS: the shield is 1 1/2" x 1 1/4"; overall length 2 3/4. Overall very good, there are a couple of tiny bites in the onyx along the bottom point. Please refer to the description for the most accurate information.
