Antique Victorian Napoleon III earrings ear pendants. 18k yellow and red gold and turquoise. Made in France circa 1850-60's. Measurements: Approximately 1 3/8 inches (3.5cm) long, not including the wires.

Description : Very elegant ear pendant drops in the form of ribbons and bows. A small upper ring of red gold set on top with a turquoise leads to a bow with another cabochon turquoise at its center. Long wavy ribbons flare out from the bottom of the bow and connect to a small flower and a concentric pair of rings. Ribbon with engraved and impressed tiny detail. The outer ring with fine filigree border in yellow gold and flat inner surface in red gold.

Within is a yellow gold ring with furrowed surface, set with 4 small cabochon turquoise at the cardinal points. Hanging from the top of this ring, below the flower above, is a small gold ball that swings and sways as the wearer moves.

The combination of red and yellow gold is very subtle. THe contrast between gold and turquoise is very clever - they show each other off to best advantage. Just enough turquoise was used to look stunning without being totally over the top.
