A lovely very stylish oil lamp which has had pride of place in the drawing room with it's twin (listed separately with original shade). Copper base, black porcelain with white transfers and gold painted lines. It has a dual duplex wick system but does needs a milk glass shade. The wicks are 1 wide each. The glass shade would just lift off and on. The shade needs to be 9 inches across on the rim of the base, and anywhere near 6 3/8 high - as you would need to source one, you could choose a shape and colour to suit your decor. We have researched this lamp and believe it may be of French origins.
We have not fuelled it and lit it, so cannot say whether it is fit to use as a working lamp, but we cannot see any cracks in the vessel, and the screw on stopper fits snug. The wick adjusters and snuffer lever (which clamps the wick so the flame cannot continue) works too - it's original pin has been replaced with a small copper pin nail (see pic). The porcelain fuel vessel has 2 tiny marks that have occurred during manufacture and were subsequently glazed (see pics). It measures ## from base to the top of the chimney rail, but should reach approx 19.5 inches with a suitable shade. I've included a regular tin of soup for scale only. The lines are almost certainly 22k gold paint and they show wear from cleaning over the years (see pics). We have listed the twin to this lamp (with it's shade) for sale separately. Please see pics for condition as they help make up part of the description.
