Trilobed top and bottoms with a shield-shaped plaque forming the center. The surface adorned with enamelled flower and foliage in white and gold on a black ground. Oval backs with typical S-shaped wire support.
This is the defining feature of poissarde earrings, named for the fish-wives of Paris, who supposedly wore them. They are extremely rare and sought after today. This is a particularly pretty pair with the enamel in unusually good condition. Wires are inserted from the back to the front of the ear, typical of earrings from this period. Marks and Metal: Horse head facing right is French mark for 18k gold - items not made in Paris. Both marks found on the flat surface of the findings.
