VICTORIAN RARE PAIR OF FRENCH GOLD HAIR BARRETTE. The vanity of the Victorian Era knew no bounds. Not at all out of the ordinary to wear multiple bracelets around the wrist nor two or three rings upon several fingers, the coif was not ignored.

Understated elegance is the overall look for this exquisite pair of hair barrettes in a timeless classical style. French in origin and fashioned in 18k gold, the lines are pure and classic. The motif originating circa 1790, these elements remained in vogue until around 1810. And the neoclassical form was revived around 1900. The motif, so very French design of a reeded border along with those telling tiny crisscrossed ribbons, as the matte yellow gold.

The two lovely survivors from the past are of a refined elegance, light but with the right drama are completed with a double C clasp closures each and gold pins, one is more curved than the other, perhaps part of a bigger set or altered in the past.
