Antique Victorian Table Lamp Oil Lamp Conversion Sevres Style French Aesthetic. Here for your consideration is a highly decorated Antique Victorian oil lamp that has been professionally converted to electric. It dates from 1850 to 1900's and I believe the vase to be made by Royal Daulton and the cast iron base and font mount to have been made by Hinks of Birmingham. The vase is completely made by hand and is thick milk glass glazed with a bergundy or maroon main colour with a robin's egg blue centrepiece. The centrepiece is elaborately hand painted with elegant rose floral design that are extremely well applied. Some of the brush work are high relief and have a 3D effect.

I have viewed the painted areas under magnifying glass and they are very intricate. There are hand laid gold gold enamel motifs surrounding the centrepiece and an unusual single floral design situated at the rear of the vase. The whole design of the lamp is exquisite and resembles the earlier dated designs of the French Sevres aesthetic.

The base is robust and displays the vase beautifully, it is made from cast iron that originally would have been gilded and detailed. It carries the acanthus ornamental leaf motif's and scrolls. It rises with a reeded tapered column and attaches by metal pin to the vases base spigot. The top crown is also cast iron with egg and dart segmented design. Bonded onto the font crown is a turned disc of Cuban mahogany from which a brass tapered segmented sconce dish is fixed. A brass extender tube rises to a brass B22 Switched lampholder with shade rings. The lamp is recently wired with brass colour 3 core twisted braided flex and a white 3 amp fused British standard plug. The whole condition of the lamp is very good with only light wear to some gilded enamel work commensurate with it's age. No chips, flea bites, cracks or repairs anywhere on the piece.

The cast iron mounts have been wire brushed and wax polished but may compliment the lamp better if they were both gilded or detailed with paint. Height to top of the lamp holder 520 mm. Base 140 x 140 mm & 80 mm deep.
