BUG Art NOUVEAU French Belle Époque Silver Honey BEE Bug Pendant Necklace Chain

Interesting one of a kind Art Nouveau necklace with large reticulated pendant and vermeil / gold wash bug in the center. I think originally this was some sort of clip, buckle or brooch, but I bought it as is and ran a chain through it to wear as a necklace because it is such a cool design. The decorative face has a beautiful warm patina with the silver, it may be vermeil / gold wash over solid silver or it is silver plated. The post on the back looks brass. Beautiful detail around the swirling outline, set with 4 paste amethyst stones in a lovely pale purple color.

It has a lovely patina with the age appropriate tarnish and the bug is gold washed. This is a French antique piece from the Belle Epoque period. It comes as pictured on an antique gold filled chain with old trombone clasp. Even though the piece is mostly silver, a silver chain looked too bright with it so I went with a warmer color.

The back has a post and two bars from whatever it was before, but it has cutouts on the top which made it work perfectly on the chain. The piece measures about 2 1/8 wide and tall. Chain is about 18 inches long after being looped through the pendant. Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. With the post on the back it sticks out from the piece and rests against the décolleté when worn. It does not scratch or anything but if you really pressed hard against it on your chest it might leave an imprint so just be careful : Age appropriate, beautiful patina. Some surface wear, and scratches but no deep pin dings that I could see. Some stubborn tarnish spots on the back. Plenty of years left in this old, very unique piece.
