Japy Freres & Cie. Fully restored 8 day striking gilt French drum clock
A mid 19th century French 8 day striking drum movement in an ornate brass case (40cm high, 23 cm wide, 15 cm deep 4.75 KG) having an urn planted at the apex of the tiered top. Ornamental handles to both sides and four elaborate foliage style cast brass feet. White convex dial (with flat inner disk) with chapter ring painted with Arabic numerals. Central brass foliage'cut out' disk planted in centre with hole for hour pipe and semi circles for winding holes.
Examined by Bowman Ltd, Coswell Rd, London' transferred onto dial above the'6' numeral. Flat bevelled front opening glass in brass bezel. Going and striking winding holes below centre of dial. Squared Brocot regulator arbor projecting through dial above 12 numeral. 8 day drum movement (82 mm dia) with count wheel striking mechanism and hammer striking hours and half hours on a silver plated bell.
French anchor escapement with steel pallets. Brocot regulator fitted to back cock with original brocot suspension spring. Back plate stamped Japy Freres & Cie. 14359/2 with 5 & 2 stamped either side of bottom pillar. Comes with new mainspring and regulator keys. Fully dismantled, repaired as necessary, ultrasonically cleaned, re-assembled and lubricated with Swiss Mobius oils. Fitted 2 new main springs. Accurate to within one minute per week.
