Each candlestick is signed by the make, with his initials'AD' surmounted by a symbol of a star. The chiselled bronze stem decorated chiselled lines supports a sconce with nozzle featuring a beaded rim.

The whole stands on four feet which are separated by scrolls. 29.5 cm high x 8.5 cm wide. Total combined weight: 1190 Grams. Overall, the candlesticks are in very good condition and show some signs of age and usage. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to ask.

The foundry was established in Paris in the late eighteenth century by Jean-Baptiste-Maximilien Delafontaine and, by 1870, is listed as being located at 10 rue de l'Université. The Delafontaine foundry produced decorative works of high quality and was one of the most renowned of all the Parisian foundries. The main competitor to the Barbedienne foundry, they cast works by some of the leading sculptors of the nineteenth century, including Antoine-Louis Bayre and Mathurin Moreau. Works by Delafontaine remain in the collection of the Louvre and other leading museums.
