Our Stock # 18.9372. This is a pair of antique virtue figures. A French, bronze decorative female statue in Art Nouveau taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890. Delightful elegance and appealing Art Nouveau motif. Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order.

Bronze forms are wonderfully patinated throughout. Warm golden hues flourish amongst darker mottled hues.

Each figure displays a French virtue - Modestie and Gaiete. Their respective poses reflect their character to great effect. Demure and bashful, Modestie looks towards the ground wistfully.

Full of reverie and openness, Gaiete holds her arms wide as her dress billows. Raised upon ebonised circular socles with rolled and tiered finish. Small annotated name plaques adorn the front of each socle. Pleasingly substantial in the hand.
