Rare ANTIQUE Hallmarked FRENCH SILVER Victorian BUTTON HOOK Leopards Head Handle
A rare, ornate, antique button hook, with French hallmarked silver panther's head handle. The hallmark was hard to find at first, and is not sharp, but definitely there on the tongue. It is beautifully modelled, with the leopard roaring with an open mouth and tongue sticking out. I would think this was produced in the latter 19thC, possibly early 20thC. The button hook is 17cm / 6.75" long, with the handle being 7cm / 2.75" long. As the photo shows, it is in very good condition, with the moulding of the handle still sharp. PLEASE NOTE: Having looked closely at the eyes, I do think they might have had stones in them at some time, but this does not detract from the beauty of this item. Garnets or rubies were commonly used for this purpose. My items are always either sourced from auctions and estate sales to be loved once again, or are made from repurposed materials into items people will cherish for many more years.
I also believe that the excitement starts when the parcel is delivered. Hopefully this will change in the future! This item is in the category "Antiques\Silver\Solid Silver\Other Solid Silver". The seller is "zuki-ambrosia" and is located in this country: GB.
